Google Maps Hits iOS; McAfee Deported to U.S.; Google Zeitgeist 2012
Topping tech headlines on Wednesday, Google delighted iOS users everywhere by releasing a Google Maps app for iOS.
The move comes nearly three months after Apple removed the pre-installed Google Maps from its mobile operating system with iOS 6. The free app is now available in the App Store and will work with devices running iOS 5.1 and higher.
Meanwhile, the John McAfee saga continued yesterday as the anti-virus software pioneer, who has been evading Belizean authorities since last month, was shipped back to the U.S. After holding him at a Guatemalan immigration center for a week, officials in the country decided to deport him back to the states.
In other news, Google yesterday unveiled its annual Zeitgeist, which is an "in-depth look at the 'spirit of the times' as seen through the billions of searches on Google over the past year." Apple gadgets, gaming, and the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) were all top of mind for Google users this year. For more, see What Google Zeitgeist 2012 Tells Us About Us.
Facebook also posted its Year in Review for 2012, detailing the most popular public figures, songs, movies, events, and technologies of the year. But the social network really made headlines for simplifying its privacy policies yet again.
