Bombay HC refuses to give relief to doc charged with medical negligence
One year ago Tabassum Sohrab Shaikh, a pregnant woman was forced to deliver a baby outside the Bhabha Hospital. Dr Kulkarni examined her and then referred her to Dr Gaikwad. Though they referred Shaikh to a higher centre they didn’t arrange for an ambulance or a doctor or nurse to accompany her and Shaikh delivered a baby right at the hospital gate. The baby passed away the same day following which an inquiry had been ordered and the doctors sacked.
Yesterday, the Bombay High Court dismissed the plea seeking reinstatement by Dr Gaikwad, who was attached to the Bhabha Hospital while pursuing a PG diploma in gynaecology and obstetrics. The HC trashed her plea to ask the BMC to issue her a ‘satisfactory’ certificate. “Such a certificate cannot be issued simply because it would not be truthful,” said the judges.
The HC was informed that action was initiated against Dr Atul Kulkarni, the other doctor involved in this case.
