6th over: 47 for 0: Umar Gul is the only Pakistan bowler, who's running with some intent and looks like picking up a wicket. Nine runs from this over.
5th over: 38 for 0: Pakistan bring on Yasir Arafat to bowl his first over and the medium-fast bowler goes for 12 runs. Arafat pitches two full length deliveries and Nicol dispatches it for fours over covers.
4th over: 26 for 0: So far so good for New Zealand. Both the Kiwi batsmen, Williamson and Nicol don't seem to be in any hurry and playing the balls on its merit. Not a single four or six off this over, but a decent one for New Zealand with 8 runs.
3rd over: 18 for 0: Umar Gul comes on to bowl and starts off pretty poorly with some loose deliveries, but was lucky to get away with it. The pitch here at Pallekele has a true bounce with the ball coming on to the bat and that will be of great help for the Kiwi batsmen.
2nd over: 13 for 0: Sohail Tanvir gets the chance to share the new ball and Rob Nicol comes forward and slams it over long for a six. 12 runs off this over.
1st over: 1 for 0: Considering New Zealand's weakness against spin, Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez starts the proceedings and pulls off a tidy one.
Pakistan innings:
20th over: 177 for 6: Two great strikes from Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi takes Pakistan to 177. Southee completes his spell with figures of 2 for 31 and with the wicket of Afridi.

Mohammad Hafeez b Franklin 43 (38)
13th over: 118 for 1: Every over, Hafeez and Jamshed are able to get the odd boundary. Fifth ball off Oram, Jamshed pushes it for a single to reach a well-deserved half-century.
12th over: 110 for 1: Vettori is the only bowler to whon Pakistan batsmen are showing some kind of respect. The left-arm spinner is able to keep them silent by bowling a tight line and length.

First ball, Nathan McCullum bowls a full toss and Hafeez dispatches it over square leg for a six. On the other end, Jamshed is going great guns, as he hits another six over extra-cover.
