CM Gehlot flags off free ambulances facility on Gandhi Jayanti

JAIPUR: To mark the Gandhi Jayanti on Tuesday, chief minister Ashok Gehlot flagged off 400 "Janani Ambulances" under the referral transport facility scheme for the mother and child health care in rural areas.
The residents in remote rural areas can now call helpline number 104 to avail the free transport facility for taking and bringing back pregnant women and up to 30-day-old infants to the closest government health care centre.
Chief minister Gehlot said the scheme has been introduced in Rajasthan on the lines of the 'Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana' launched in Haryana's Mewat area by UPA chairpersonSonia Gandhi.
"Rajasthan Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana has increased institutional deliveries and has been providing safe motherhood to women and free medical facilities to infants in remote villages," Gehlot said on the occasion.
Rajasthan is among the six states where maternal and infant mortality rates are highest in the country. "After the implementation of this scheme, the maternal and infant mortality rates too have shown a decline in the state," the chief minister claimed.
Health minister A A Khan and principal secretary (medical and health) Deepak Upreti were also present when the chief minister flagged of the ambulances from the Jaipuria Government Hospital here.
