Dell launches Windows 8 products for India
The PC manufacturer, solutions provider announced the availability of XPS 12 convertible, Latitude 10 tablets, Latitude 6430u Ultrabooks

With Windows 8 officially launched in India, the original equipment manufacturer’s (OEMs) are ready to launch a plethora of products based on the new OS.

Dell is the first to announce a series of products for India based on the Windows 8, and based on the first look of products it seems personal computing is getting excited.

The PC manufacturer and solutions provider today announced the availability of XPS 12 convertible (Rs 90,490 + taxes), Latitude 10 tablets (Rs 42,490 + taxes) and Latitude 6430u Ultrabooks (Rs 69,990+ taxes).

Unlike the earlier PCs and laptops which focused on functionality the new products are also driven by innovative designs. Dell’s XPS12 is a point in case, the notebook PC has a screen that a user can spin around, turning it into a tablet when the lid is closed, and with Windows 8 as the operating system the laptop has touchscreen. XPS12 uses aluminium and carbon fiber (used if F1 racing cars), as well as Corning Gorilla Glass.

Dell also announced the availability of its much awaited tablet in India. The Latitude 10 tablet priced at Rs 42,490 + taxes is powered by Intel’s CloverTrail Atom CPU that has been tailored for mobile devices.

P Krishnakumar, executive director, marketing-Dell India also adds that with enterprises familiarity around Windows OS, their Latitude 10 tablets not only gives the consumer access to apps but also allows executives a secure environment. “I think all these products address the concerns of the CTO/CIO of managing a device keeping in mind all the security issues,” he added.

The design change by Mircosoft in Windows 8 is allowing the OEMs to introduce touch-screen in desktop and laptops. PC manufacturer Lenovo, is also expected to introduce its Windows 8 based convertible IdeaPad Yoga. With a dual hinge design, the screen can rotate 360 degree and switched between a laptop and a tablet.

“Lenovo’s flagship products, like the recently announced Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga – a PC which converts into a tablet – and the Lenovo IdeaCentre A720 AIO PC will be optimized to run on Windows 8. Doing this will enable customers to take complete advantage of the new capabilities offered by the platform,” said Amar Babu - Managing Director for Lenovo India.
