English Vinglish: Movie Special Review
According to director Gauri Shinde, the film is a tribute to her mother.
“English Vinglish is a film inspired by my mother whose discomfort with the English language did not stop her from realizing her full potential as a human being, a mother, a wife and a professional. It is my way of saying ‘sorry’ and ‘thank you’ to my mother and a tribute to women,” says Gauri Shinde.
The movie marks the return of Sridevi to acting after a gap of 15 year. However, the 49-year-old actress doesn’t want to call it her comeback.
“I never felt I was out of this industry. I don't term it as my comeback. Even when I used to go out, my fans used to always ask me, 'When will we see you?' I am so glad and thankful to my fans that I was always there in their hearts and they never forgot me,” she said.
English Vinglish has mostly been shot in New York. The film had a gala premiere at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival Sep 14. Sridevi’s performance in the film won the critical praise.
