Will Gadkari be removed before November 22?
New Delhi, Nov 13: The temporary breather provided by RSS ideologue S Gurumurthy to the beleaguered BJP chief Nitin Gadkari expired sooner than expected as he clarified that his probe into the Purti group affairs did not mean a clean chit for Gadkari.
A series of Tweets by Gurumurthy, clarifying on his role in the episode, further added to the saffron grouping’s crisis.
Gurumurthy’s open advice that the president of a political party should not have any business interests, states the obvious. The die has been cast and countdown for Gadkari’s ouster seems to have begun in the right earnest.

The former alongwith Dr Subramanian Swamy share a close relationship with the Gujarat chief minister. The state assembly election wherein Modi is pitted against his arch-rivals both within the Sangh Parivar and outside it, seem to have weighed heavily on Gurumurthy’s mind and the resultant change in stance.
With the last straw which Gadkari was clinging on to, withdrawn, the BJP president’s ouster process has been hastened and a crucial phase of fighting his last ditch battle for survival has also started. The development has also robbed the RSS of any further opportunity to come to his rescue. The only option left for the Nagpur headquartered outfit is to decide Gadkari’s fate on merit.
If the BJP insiders are to be believed a decision on Gadkari’s fate can be taken before November 22, the day the Winter Session of Parliament starts. This could be done to take the wind out of the UPA sail and ensure that the BJP’s anti-corruption tirade against the ruling combine is not punctured. Gadkari’s continuation through the Session would give an advantage to the Congress and its allies, is how the sources in the BJP feel.
The dilution of Gurumurthy’s stance has resulted in Mr Gadkari loosing the protective cover and as a result the internecine battle of supremacy within the BJP will become intense. It has left the RSS chief Mr Mohan Bhagwat, who has been protecting the BJP chief with no other option but to go with the majority view which presently is stocked against the latter.
The withdrawal of support by Gurumurthy could result in three immediate possibilities. The crucial phase for Gadkari starts now. It has given rise to a vital question: Who after him? And quest for his successor leading to an open war within the Sangh Parivar.
Although Gurumurthy claimed that he stood by his probe report related to Gadkari’s companies, he has painstakingly clarified that he had never a given a clean chit to Mr Gadkari as he does not know him fully and that he cares little whether he continues to be the BJP president or not.
He says his conclusion is limited to the fact that the Rs 47 crore investment in Purti or those through the 14 companies is not money laundering by Gadkari.
"I personally feel that no party president should be in business as that always invites problems and creates perception. The perception about Gadkari is a political problem which he and his party have to handle I handled only the facts," he said.
