Leander Paes set to put his best foot forward in Bollywood

Paes' Bollywood debut is a thriller that unfolds on a train

Tennis ace Leander Paes has started shooting for his Bollywood debut, Rajdhani Express.

Stills from the film we managed to get hold of show Leander with the rest of the cast shooting on a set that resembles the inside of a Rajdhani compartment, even as the first-look posters of the film were released this weekend.

The first stint of filming saw Leander shoot an important scene with co-stars Gulshan Grover, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Sudhanshu Pandey and debutante Puja Bose.

Jimmy Shergill and Sayali Bhagat are also part of the cast, but were not a part of these scenes.

The film, directed by Ashok Kohli, is a thriller that unfolds wholly inside the DelhiMumbai Rajdhani. Leander has been cast in the central role of a gunrunner who has to deliver a consignment.

The story is about how his character, Kesav, steals a gun and plans to escape on the train. Fate takes a twist in the compartment as the journey proceeds, creating suspense, as Kesav gets stuck with his copassengers.

According to unit sources, given the storyline of the film, almost all of Rajdhani Express By Shivani Joshi in Mumbai will be shot on a train, with a chunk of it being filmed inside a single compartment.

There was a buzz doing the rounds that Leander actually plays a terrorist in the film but the makers have refused to confirm the reports.

Shortly after the film was announced, there were reports that Leander's debut film would star Ameesha Patel. But that did not materialise.

It isn't clear if Leander's character has a love interest in the film at all, and if so, who among the female stars has been cast opposite him.

The film was shortly held up owing to Leander's tennis commitments and had to be postponed.

Instead of releasing in 2012-end, as originally scheduled, the plan is to release the film in January 2013. Portions of shooting are still left, after which the post-production work will begin.
