Salman Khan as the fashion icon of Hindi Cinema

As he celebrated his 47th birthday yesterday and the nation was caught in its frenzy as he also got a birthday gift in the form of superbly successful filmDABANGG 2, which arguably was the film in 2012 to scale the mark of 100 crore business in the shortest span of time, one thing that has been catalytic in a trail blazing successful career of Salman Khan is the fashion frontiers that he has set with nearly each of the films that he has acted in. This trend has been rather accentuated in the recent times with various films that he has acted in.

While the bare torso has become his leitmotif after he tore off his shirt for the song - Oo Jaane Jaana from the film PYAAR KIYA TO DARNA KYA how many of us would be aware of the fact that Salman Khan did not fight shy of doing it in his earlier films like MAINE PYAAR KIYA and BAAGHI as well? Indeed, Salman Khan has done it earlier, it is just that this aspect has got the fancy of the Indian audience now, and as a matter of fact the posters of MAINE PYAR KIYA had Salman Khan in a bare torso. So Salman should be credited with making the bare torso a fashion statement from the time when he stepped into the world of Hindi cinema.

Apart from making bare torso as his style, Salman Khan has been credited in the industry for establishing various hair styles as well, but his most famous hairstyle has been what he had sported in TERE NAAM. It literally caught the imagination of the public, and the kind of hysteria that this style created was reminiscent of the frenzy that was associated with Big B and with Rajesh Khanna.

Salman Khan as an actor was also among the first stars who broke the drab colors which were choice of the film stars, when he started dabbling in as colorful a pair of trouser one could sport, and literally opened up a new vista of color choices for the fashion aficionados to make a fashion statement. He is also one of the stars who has created his own fashion brand- Being Human and promotes it as zealously as can be possible. But he is also a conscious actor, as he does not promote his brand through the films in which he has acted, though it would provide him a perfect platform to sell his brand. But Salman Being Salman, he never would do what is expected perhaps.

When one is making a review of the stylizations that an actor creates to add to the aura of his persona, Salman Khan has to be credited for introducing a new style of sporting a pair of goggles, by wearing it on the back of his collar, as he did it in DABANGG and now has repeated it in DABANGG 2. As a matter of fact this branding could have been further accentuated in DABANGG 2 in a fighting scene, when his goggles got dislodged and ballooned into the air, and ought to have come back to the back of his collar, but that would perhaps have been a Rajnikant moment, therefore it dropped on his lap.

Salman Khan after all revels in being different and this is what creates an aura around his persona and the fan following which keeps on increasing exponentially on a yearly basis.
