Instead of sixth-seeded Juan Martín del Potro, Djokovic in the quarterfinals faced Mikhail Youzhny, a Russian seeded 21st who became the first player of the tournament to take a set from Djokovic. Still, while Djokovic fought his way to the semifinals, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0, his much-anticipated showdown with Andy Murray failed to materialize.
