Long Wait Likely for Airline Passengers Stranded By Typhoon Usagi

HONG KONG—Even as flights gradually resume at Hong Kong's busy airport, grounded for over 18 hours by a powerful storm, airlines could still take days or even a week to clear the backlog of thousands of stranded passengers.

At the airport's cavernous departures hall, scores of waiting passengers continued to camp out Monday afternoon along the many rows of airport chairs, some using their smartphones to pass time as others picnicked while sitting on the floor. Many had been traveling during the Mid-Autumn festival, which is a holiday in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

More than 400 flights were canceled ...
