The actor describes the action flick as a “challenge”
Vin Diesel returns to the silver screen this weekend as the lead star in new action flick 'Riddick,' and the actor has described the film's premiere as a “victory” as industry experts predict it will smash the box office in the US.
The 46-year-old's third outing in the sci-fi flick will debut in America this weekend and it looks as though he will have plenty to celebrate as the movie is expected to produce big numbers despite the previous installments, 2000's 'Pitch Black' and 2004's 'Chronicles of Riddick' bombing.
It comes as no surprise that Vin admits it's a “victory” that 'Riddick' has made it to the big screen and describes making this movie as a “challenge.”
“It's such a victory that this movie is going to be in theaters,” Vin said at a press conference according to the Huffington Post.
“I started in the independent (film) world, but this was a new level of challenge for me.”
Speaking on his leading character, Vin said: “This character struck a chord. He's tangible for them. I think the idea of a character that has been misread, overlooked and given up on is very fascinating to people.”
Meanwhile, despite mixed reviews the film is set to become a box office hit according to pre release figures in the States. The Los Angeles Times state that the sequel will likely launch with $23 million. But some industry experts are aiming higher with as much as $30 million for it's opening weekend.
Riddick is in UK cinemas now and hits the US on Friday September 6.
