28 Years Imprisonment For Lady MLA!!

It is a week of sensations by the judiciary system of India with a Gujarat based lady minister awarded 18 years imprisonment in connection with 2002 Gujarat riots at Naroda Patola.

Cut to details, former minister and BJP sitting MLA of Naroda, Mayaben Kodnani was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment along with additional 10 years for torching houses during the riots that killed almost 97 people. Along with 30 others, Maya Kodnani is observed by the court as a key conspirator for the killing of 97 people on 28 Feb, 2002. Maya Kodnani has been convicted under sections 120 (B) for Criminal Conspiracy and 302 for murder as per Indian Penal Code.

In fact, the special public prosecutor wanted to name this case as rarest of rare category and demanded capital punishment for ex-minister and others. Though the verdict can be appealed to other top courts, it is a big blow for the ruling Narendra Modi government.
