Minister prefers Money over Fancy Number
Minister for Social Welfare Pithani Satyanarayana, who lobbied for fancy number 9999 for his new Toyota Fortuner, has now voluntarily dropped the idea when the government asked him to pay Rs 3.5 lakh for the most sought after number.
Upon the request from Peethani, the state government directed the Transport Commissioner to allot 9999 to the Toyota Fortuner vehicle owned by the minister with a price tag set at Rs 3.5 lakh. However, the minister who wasn't happy with the huge prize asked the Transport Department to reconsider the amount, or else he will go for a non-fancy number. As the response from the Transport officials is not positive, Peethani choose the number 9459 for his vehicle registered in the name of his family member Peethani Venkata Suresh.
Few months back, Minister for Industries Geetha Reddy was allotted the fancy number 9999 for her luxury vehicle only for a minimum amount of Rs 50,000. Why this discrimination between the two ministers? When asked about the same, no proper explanation was given either by the Transport Department or by any other government officials.
