Zee 24 channel on verge of Shut Down

Another 24x7 Telugu News Channel is on the verge of a shut down in AP. Zee 24, which was launched on 2009 amidst much fanfare, is all set to close all its activities from September 20th midnight and 180 employees were asked to choose an alternative.

Ever since it's inception, Zee 24 failed to generate revenues and instead incurred losses due to the heavy competition from the other channels. Although the channel's annual expenditure is around Rs 25 crore, it failed to recover at leasthalf of that investment. It is being said that a loss of Rs 14 crore has been recorded this year. National network, Zee Group, which is planning to launch an English channel soon is now focusing on shutting down it's other regional channels which are incurring losses.

The market range of Telugu news advertisements is around Rs 120 crores. Currently, there are 14 24x7 News Channels in AP and two more channels (CVR, Tulsi) will be launched soon. Due to competition among media houses the Ad Tariff prices have come down drastically over the years and this crisis has been forcing the channels towards shut down.
