Sinead O'Connor fires back at Miley Cyrus for mocking Amanda Bynes' mental illness, threatens legal action over tweets

Sinead O'Connor took to her Facebook to pen another open letter to Miley Cyrus.

The "We Can't Stop" singer slammed the '90s star in a controversial tweet comparing her to Amanda Bynes, mocking O'Connor's own Twitter meltdown last year in which she hinted at feeling suicidal.

"Before there was Amanda Bynes . . . There was (O'Connor)," wrote Cyrus, who prior to their feud told Rolling Stone that her nude "Wrecking Ball" video was inspired by O'Connor's 1990 video for "Nothing Compares 2 U."

The Irish songwriter’s original letter expressed concern for the twerktastic star, saying Cyrus is letting herself become “prostituted” by the music industry.

“The music business doesn’t give a s--- about you, or any of us,” O’Connor wrote Thursday.

“They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think it’s what YOU wanted and when you end up in rehab as a result of being prostituted.”

However, after Cyrus' harsh Twitter response, O'Connor was less inclined to dish out words of widsom.

"Miley…Really?" O' Connor said in her second letter.

"Who the f--k is advising you? Because taking me on is even more f--kin' stupid than behaving like a prostitute and calling it feminism. You have posted today tweets of mine which are two years old, which were posted by me when I was unwell and seeking help so as to make them look like they are recent. In doing so you mock myself and Amanda Bynes for having suffered with mental health issues and for having sought help."

"It is most unbecoming of you to respond in such a fashion to someone who expressed care for you. And worse that you are such an anti-female tool of the anti-female music industry."

O'Connor stressed that Cyrus should "wake up and understand" her recent antics and how they can affect the people around her.

"I hope that you will apologize to Amanda Bynes and to any person who has been wounded by your mockery of those who have suffered."

Bynes is currently seeking help in celebrity rehab center The Canyon in Malibu for court-ordered treatment.

Cyrus also tweeted the infamous photo of O'Connor from a 1992 "Saturday Night Live" episode where she ripped up a picture of the Pope.

"Furthermore you posted a photo of me tearing the pope's photo...as if to imply insanity," O'Connor said of the low blow.

"I suggest you read The Philadelphia Report, The Boston Report, all the reports which will illuminate for you why that action of mine remains sane and valid. By mocking it you mock every child who suffered sexual abuse at the hands of priests and had it covered by the Vatican. You could really do with educating yourself, that is if you're not too busy getting your t-ts out to read."

Cyrus decided to respond yet again. This time, she expressed she does not have time for a social media war.

"Sinead. I don't have time to write you an open letter cause I'm hosting & performing on SNL this week," she wrote on Twitter.

"So if youd like to meet up and talk lemme know in your next letter. :)"

O'Connor decided to keep things going between the two and give Cyrus what she asked for by writing a third Facebook letter Friday, except this time she threatened legal action.

"I have no interest whatsoever in meeting you," O' Connor responded.

"You had plenty of time yesterday to abuse Amanda Bynes .. an entirely innocent party.. and myself.. who also did nothing to deserve your abuse.. along with every other sufferer of mental health problems and every person who suffered abuse at the hands of priests."

"If you cannot apologize I will have no choice but to bring legal proceedings against you since it is extremely hard to be given work when people think one is suffering from mental illness," she continued.

"I have no interest in or desire to cause you trouble but if you do not apologise for having deliberately tried to cause me hurt and trouble personally and professionally I will have to bring pressure upon you. When you end up in the psych ward or rehab I'll be happy to visit you.. and would not lower myself to mock you."

Sinead O'Connor has written a third letter to Miley Cyrus accusing her of damaging her career and demanding an apology as well as urging her to “cease behaving in an anti-female capacity”.

The 46-year old Irish singer-songwriter has accused the 20-year old daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus of deliberately trying to hurt and trouble her personally and professionally, and even threatened her with legal proceedings if she refused to publicly apologize to Amanda Bynes and all mental health sufferers as well, the Mirror reported.

‘The Lion and the Cobra’ artist added that “it is not acceptable to mock any person for having suffered” and predicted that the ‘Stay’ singer will also end up in a psych ward or a rehab soon.

The former fiance of Liam Hemsworth had posted a message on Twitter mocking O’Conner’s mental illness, by comparing the ‘War’ singer to the ‘She’s the Man’ actress.

The ‘Sacrifice’ singer had written her first letter after Cyrus revealed that her near naked ‘Wrecking Ball’ video was inspired by her ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ hit.

Miley Cyrus jokes about VMAs controversy in 'Saturday Night Live' ads

Miley Cyrus is making light of the controversy surrounding her raunchy performance at the MTV Video Music Awards in cheeky promos for her upcoming appearance on U.S. comedy show Saturday Night Live.

The superstar shocked fans and critics alike in August when she hit the stage at the New York ceremony in a barely-there outfit and danced provocatively, sticking out her tongue, as she teamed up with Robin Thicke for a duet of his summer smash Blurred Lines.

She has been defending her steamy set ever since, and now she's using it as material for her weekend stint as host and musical guest of SNL.

In one advertising spot for the show, she appears alongside exasperated funnyman Taran Killam, who jokingly asks, "Miley, that VMAs performance... how could you?!", as Cyrus replies, "I know, how could I?! And what was I wearing?"

In another commercial, Killam questions the 20-year-old about why she's always sticking out her tongue, prompting her to quip, "It's how I smell."

Miley Cyrus fooling us all

This may come as a shock, but it isn’t until a good quarter of the way through her new MTV documentary that Miley Cyrus sticks her tongue out. And twerking? Barely a passing mention.

Someone at MTV deserves a serious raise for foreseeing the distant gold in the reinvention of Miley Cyrus, the “Hannah Montana” tween star who shocked the pearl-clutching world last month with a foam finger, a slew of teddy bears and a heaping portion of sex in an instantly infamous performance at the Video Music Awards.

For its surprisingly kinetic one-hour documentary, “Miley: The Movement” — premiering Wednesday at 10 p.m. — MTV followed Cyrus for four months, from the early summer debut of Miley 2.0 with her urban single “We Can’t Stop” through her naked-but-for-the-boots music video for the chart-topping “Wrecking Ball.”

The titular “movement” is what Miley calls her transformation from wholesome Disney entertainer to a 20-year-old doing whatever-the-hell she wants.

“People always want to call it a transition . . . It’s not a transition,” she says forcefully in the doc. “It’s a movement. It’s a growth. It’s a change.”

Self-aggrandizing aside, there’s no debating that this is a Cyrus we haven’t seen before. Beneath the casual appropriation of black culture is a hard-working young woman who, frankly, knows exactly what she’s doing.

“You can watch that performance and think that’s a hot mess,” she says of the VMAs, a few days after. “But it’s a strategic hot mess.”

In one scene, the robot commonly known as Britney Spears pops by for a (likely contractually obligated) recording session with Cyrus for a feature on Miley’s new album (the two now share a manager, Larry Rudolph).

After speak-singing lyrics like “Cat walk, slick talk” into the mic, Robotney offers an awkward, “Thank you for having me on your song.”

It’s all a heavy-handed, albeit fair, set-up to position Cyrus’ shock and hype as the modern-day deflowering of Ms. Spears with now comparably tame acts — such as kissing Madonna on stage or shaking her butt in a nude body suit.

“When the ‘Slave 4 U’ video came out, my dad was like, ‘My 8-year-old’s going to be a stripper!’ ” Cyrus enthusiastically tells Spears, who hilariously doesn’t appear pre-programmed for any sort of human response.

With that in mind, everything Cyrus does starts to seem at least a little less grating. Can we really blame her for wanting to make a name for herself? Moments like her vacuuming on a jet plane (“Gotta keep it humble!”) and purposely over-dramatizing ailments (“My neck, I can’t move it, and I feel like now I’m losing my vision”) show a level-headed girl with a refreshing sense of humor in the often too-serious world of pop music.

“If I wanted to do a raunchy sex show, I wouldn’t have been dressed as a damn bear!” she exclaims. Fair point.

There is a glaring omission in “The Movement,” though — no mention of Liam Hemsworth, the “Hunger Games” hunk Cyrus was engaged to during most of the doc filming (they’re now split up).

Also nowhere to be seen — her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, who has a history of disapproving of his daughter’s antics. MTV wouldn’t comment on the exclusions, but Miley was a “partner” in making the film.

In other words, we’re seeing exactly what she wants us to see. This is, after all, essentially a very tantalizing extended commercial for her album, “Bangerz,” which drops next week.

In other words: we’ve fallen for it again.

Liam Hemsworth Walks First Red Carpet After Miley Cyrus Breakup

Liam Hemsworth is back on the scene. The Paranoia actor made his first red carpet appearance since announcing the end of his relationship with Miley Cyrus on Tuesday, Sept. 24. The 23-year-old Aussie hit up the BOSS Columbus Circle flagship store opening in New York City, where he bonded with new dad Josh Duhamel. The event doubled as the premiere of Anthropocene by Marco Brambilla.

The 6-foot-3 star didn't stop for interviews—presumably to avoid being questioned about Cyrus and Eiza González—but he did tell E! News in passing that he loves Hugo BOSS' "suits" and "style."

Inside the party, a source says Hemsworth was "doing a shimmie" near the DJ booth while listening to CeCe Peniston's 1991 hit "Finally." He was also "being really friendly" with fans who wanted a picture.

Later that night, Duhamel—who welcomed son Axl with wife Fergie on Aug. 29—approached Hemsworth and shook his hand. "Josh showed Liam a photo of the baby," the source says of the actors.

Hemsworth has been keeping a relatively low profile since calling off his 15-month engagement earlier this month. Instead of hitting the club circuit, he's focusing on the next installment of The Hunger Games franchise, Mockinjay, which began filming in Atlanta last week.

E! News has learned that Liam stopped by Eiza's pad in Beverly Hills just after 3:30 p.m. to give her a piece of luggage, where she flaunted her bangin' bod in a pair of booty shorts and a bright orange bra top, seemingly having just worked out when her sexy visitor arrived.

Liam was only there for about five minutes, and the pair chatted briefly before they started smooching.

The 23-year-old beauty—who broke up with her boyfriend of two years, Mexican businessman Pepe Díaz, in August—only "just met" the Aussie actor, presumably in Vegas, where she was seen chatting over drinks with Hemsworth at the Wynn Resort nightclub XS on Saturday.

González—who got her big break at 16 when she was cast as the lead in Lola, Érase Una Vez—recently moved to L.A. in order to pursue acting opportunities in American films.

The budding couple also spent time together Monday before Eiza flew to Mexico where she's due today for an appearance for the DVD release of the Spanish-language version of Disney's The Croods.

Clearly, things appear to be going swimmingly for the good-looking pair.

'I'm not old-fashioned,' Cher says. Miley Cyrus' notorious MTV performance 'just wasn't done well.'

Cher has a few choice words about the Miley Cyrus twerk-a-thon on MTV's Video Music Awards.

The hyperactive, sexual performance with Robin Thicke was "so bad," says the famously outspoken diva, 67.

But not for reasons that riled most skittish viewers. Cher, no stranger to controversy and scandal, didn't find any shock value in Cyrus' tongue-wagging, booty-thumping display.

"I'm not old-fashioned," Cher tells USA TODAY in an interview to promote new album Closer to the Truth. "She could have come out naked, and if she'd just rocked the house, I would have said, 'You go, girl.' It just wasn't done well. She can't dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn't great, one cheek was hanging out. And, chick, don't stick out your tongue if it's coated."

The performance seemed ill-conceived, Cher adds.

"If you're going to go that far, then think about it before you do it," she says.

Cher made waves for her 1989 If I Could Turn Back Time video shot before sailors aboard the USS Missouri battleship. She wore a body stocking over a skimpy swimsuit that revealed her tattooed bottom.

Grand Valley State University forced to remove campus wrecking ball sculpture due to Miley Cyrus parodies

It seems Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” music video – in which she rides a big metal wrecking ball in her birthday suit – not only caused parents to roll their eyes, but became a potential safety hazard for college students.

On Tuesday, administrators at the Grand Valley State University in Michigan removed a wrecking ball sculpture – called a bifilar pendulum – from the campus of the liberal arts university, after student parodies of the Cyrus video became a cause for concern.

According to an online statement issued by the university, students recently began climbing on the pendulum art piece, causing its cable to fray.

At least one student had been photographed riding the campus art naked, and several others posted videos of themselves doing their best Cyrus impersonations. And it seems college-goers aren’t taking the removal of the ball without a protest.

The twitter account GVSU Wrecking Ball, @GVSUball, has been a place for students to post about their “wrecking ball” experiences and insist it be brought back by spreading the hashtag #reinstalltheball.

“Can't sleep knowing the ball is not at home!” tweeted one, as another lamented “School traditions shouldn't die because a few people act like morons.”

The sculpture – which hangs from a 15-foot steel cable – was installed in the Kirkhof Center in 1974, where it hung for six years, and it was later installed near Padnos Hall of Science in 1995. Now, it has been taken to an off-campus storage unit. GSVU also noted that officials had been mulling over what to do with the structure even before Cyrus’ video debut last week.

“We’ll have a structural engineer review the installation and provide an assessment of the load on the beam – particularly when there is added weight. Safety is our main concern,” said Associate Vice President of Facilities Services Tim Thimmesch. “We hope the pendulum can be reinstalled at that location or at another suitable location on campus.”

"[The rumored twerking ban is] a bunch of hogwash. There's nothing to it."
